My name is Kimwei McCarthy, Grand Bard of Exeter, MMus Music Lecturer, Singer-songwriter, Climate Protest Musician. This year (2023) I am focusing all my musical energy on music in Climate Protest: making music at events and demonstrations, and writing/performing/recording protest songs.
I started being part of music in protest in April 2019 as one of the co-Founders of Extinction Rebellion Drummers, and was amazed at how important the drumming was to the Climate Protests and what a difference it made. So many magical future building moments!
I also began writing/recording/performing protest songs at that time and have been involved in protests as a Song Carrier, singer-songwriter, instrumentalist, drum leader and music director.
The aim of this blog is to chronicle my year of being deeply focused on music for protest, collecting my thoughts, what I learn and of course the music I make.
